French medtech Sonio, specializing in prenatal healthcare for children and pregnant women, has completed its financing round, raising €13 million to develop its artificial intelligence solution for detecting and diagnosing abnormalities during prenatal ultrasound scans.

This round of financing, operated by the North American fund Cross Border Impact Ventures alongside the EIC Fund, historical investors and several business angels, will enable the company, founded in 2020 to combat this maternal mortality, to improve its SaaS solution, and adapt its technology for use with portable ultrasound scanners.

The startup, which already counts a third of French hospitals among its customers and has a presence in several European countries, as well as India and Nigeria in particular, aims to expand across the Atlantic.

In December 2022, the European Innovation Council Accelerator (EIC) pledged to invest 10 million euros (2.5 million euros in grants and 7.5 million euros in equity), which has now been realized with this round of funding.

Cross-Border Impact Ventures (CBIV) invests primarily in commercial-stage healthcare technology companies demonstrating global growth, high returns and impact potential.

Elaia, Bpifrance and OneRagtime, Sonio's historic investors, also took part in this round of financing.
